The Light in Darkness Therapy
Discover the profound revelation of utter simplicity. Immersing oneself in total darkness may reveal the potential of our minds otherwise unnoticed in our bustling lives filled with distractions. Darkness therapy, a variant of Chamber-REST, offers the opportunity to discover new perspectives, unleash creativity, and heal old wounds in the simple act of being in the dark.
What is Darkness Therapy?
Darkness therapy is a variant of restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST). Clients are immersed in environments of complete darkness for extended periods of time within a therapeutic framework.
The typical duration of client immersion is 3-5 days but can be as little as 3 hours or for longer periods of weeks or months.
Facilitators support clients through an initial planning and preparation stage, provide periodic therapeutic check-ins during darkness immersion, and support the integration of darkness immersion experiences into everyday life.
Therapeutic & Research Potential
Darkness therapy may be a complementary, or powerful alternative to psychedelic therapy and mindfulness practice. However, it doesn’t require the ingestion of substances to elicit altered states of consciousness (ASC) and mental health benefits. This mindfulness fast-track is quickly becoming an exciting new area of translational research.
Studies in current literature show promising outcomes for treating bipolar, anxiety, depression and stress while increasing self-esteem, mindfulness and meaning in life.
Additionally, darkness therapy research may yield novel discoveries in the fields of consciousness studies and mind-body medicine.
Facilitation Certification Program
The darkness therapy facilitator certification program supports mental health professionals to offer clients ethical and evidence-based darkness-assisted therapy while supporting greater replicability in darkness therapy research.
